Downtown Evanston Performing Arts Study
In 2010 a study was commissioned by Downtown Evanston to evaluate the viability of using the Varsity Theater, an old movie house, as an adaptive reuse facility for performing arts companies in Evanston. The result of that report concluded that the demand for venues in Evanston outperforms the space that could be viable at the Varsity. To conduct Phase 2 of the study, the City applied to the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant program to provide income for the study. The City of Evanston was awarded $50,000 from the NEA to study viable sites in downtown Evanston and evaluate what types of venues could be placed on these underutilized sites. A detailed construction and operation financial plan and action plan are due with this report as well. The study will conclude in November 2012.
