Community Planning Challenge Grant Application

Submitted in 2010, The Community Challenge Planning Grant program was a competitive grant administered jointly by the Department for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Transportation (DOT). This was an Economic Recovery grant program, seeking out projects to fund that would exemplify the best in the Livability Principles as developed jointly between HUD, DOT and the EPA.

The City requested $2.5 million in funds to accelerate the development of Emerson Square, a Mixed-income brownfield development on Evanston’s west side. The funds would be used to acquire the remaining parcels of land needed for development and fund pre-development costs associated with the cleanup of the site.

The City was not selected for funding, however this grant is being considered for submission for the 2011 Grant.
